Welcome to Year 5 Coubertin Class
The class teachers for Coubertin are Mrs Collitt on Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday and Mrs Aitchison on Thursday & Friday. The class LSA and MDA is Mrs Corris. If you have a question or would like to contact us, please use the form at the bottom of this page.
Reading:
We would like all children to read each night (or at least 3 times a week) for 10 minutes (or more) and have their reading record signed weekly by an adult at home. The reading record must be given to Mrs Corris every morning in order to gain points towards your reading certificates. If you have misplaced the reading record, a note can be written and signed by an adult instead.
PE and Kit:
PE is on a Monday afternoon with Mr Morris and a Thursday afternoon with Mrs Aitchison. Children should arrive on both days in PE kit and have their ears clear of earrings. This must be black or grey jogging bottoms or black shorts and a white tshirt. The Unity purple jumper should be worn over the top. Please note, children should not be in full coloured tracksuits. Children will not be allowed to do PE if they do not have the correct footwear (trainers) due to health and safety. Due to Covid-19, we are unable to offer spare kits during these times.
Spellings:
The children are grouped across Year 5 for spellings and have sessions 4 times a week. We give out spellings on a Monday and test on a Friday. We are trialling this system until Christmas when we will review it. Please help your child by practising their spellings throughout the week.
Home Learning:
Alongside reading each week, we encourage each child to visit the Times tables Rockstars and Mathletics websites to encourage independent learning skills. We will also be sending out specific homework linked to our topic from January to prepare the children for the increased expectations in Year 6 and Secondary School.
Behaviour:
We follow the 'SMART', Gold, Green, Yellow and Red card chart to reward and recognise behaviour in our class. We also use Class Dojo to gain points throughout the day and work towards certificates/prizes. The dojo points are linked to the SMART chart and our whole school dispositions which are:
Independence
Motivation
Perseverance
Responsibility
Curiosity
