Welcome to Year 1!
Key information for children in Nightingale Class.
Class Teacher: Miss Congdon and Mrs Bulmer
Class LSA's: Mrs Slade and Mrs Dance
Nightingale's Class P.E day will be on a Tuesday.
Please can all children come to school in their P.E kits. This should consist of:
- tracksuit bottoms/shorts
- white P.E top
- trainers or plimsolls
- purple school jumper.
In Year 1 we encourage you to read at home with your child/children 3 - 4 times a week. We do not expect you to read a whole book every evening, just a couple of pages will do!
Please also practice your child's sight words with them regularly. The aim of the sight words is to build up their reading fluency so these words need to be read without sounding out the words.
For any guidance on how to support your child's reading at home, please do not hesitate to ask the staff working in your child's class.
Autumn term - Bright lights Big City
In the Autumn term the children in Nightingale Class enjoyed learning about London as a Capital city We looked at where London is situated on the map and the different humanistic features of the city. The children enjoyed learning all about the famous Landmarks and sight seeing attractions in London, such The London Eye, The Gherkin, The Shard and Buckingham Palace.
The children have also enjoyed our English learning this Term. We focused on the book "Topsy and Tim visit London". We had a go at writing our own versions of the story. We also created posters about the Queen and learned all the key features we needed to include in an information poster.
In our maths learning we have looked at Addition and subtraction, greater and less than, 3D shapes and place value.
