Our learning 2024 - 2025

Welcome back after the Easter break! The children have settled back in to their learning well. Today, we started our cricket sessions learning how to throw, stop and catch balls and beanbags. The children really enjoyed it and are looking forward to their next session next Friday.

Forest school fun.

In computing we were learning how to program Bee Bots

Our Rock Steady Workshop was thoroughly enjoyed by all.

We had lots of fun learning how to skip and trying new skills in our skipping workshop.

In music, we have been exploring pitch. Recognising high and low sounds and that our voices are also instruments.

In Geography, we have been learning about hot and cold places on Earth, the Poles and the Equator.

In Design and Technology we have been exploring structures and how best to stop them from toppling over.

In writing this week, we immersed ourselves in the story of Goldilocks and the three bears. We sequenced the story, performed the story and even created wanted posters for Goldilocks before writing the story ourselves.

In art we have just started our printmaking unit. The artist we are studying is Karen Lederer who prints with everyday objects.

An amazing day was had by all. We thoroughly enjoyed our well-being day which started with a carousel of activities throughout key stage one followed by a session at forest school roasting marshmallows and exploring. Finally, to finish off the day with some well-being colouring and a movie with our friends.

Today we started our food and nutrition unit in design and technology. The children enjoyed learning how to eat healthy and how to incorporate a 'rainbow of colours' into their their meals to ensure they are getting all of the nutrients we need to keep healthy. In our first lesson, we made rainbow wraps and evaluated them.

In History this week, year 1 have been looking at significant people. The first person was Mary Anning the palaeontologist. The children really engaged with this and could discuss what they knew about dinosaurs and fossils so far. We ended this section by making our own fossils out of salt dough.

WORLD BOOK DAY!

11B411 - Culture Vulture Day! Amazing morning to start the day. Children made African headdresses and then engaged with our African dance workshop. The children were split into two tribes and had to give a scary dance off between each other. We made some African bead bracelets out of pasta and pipe cleaners, had a great time with the African drums and percussion and finished our experience with a simple African sweet treat.

Year 1 continued with their food and nutrition unit this week and we learnt to use the 'bridge' hold to cut the vegetables carefully into batons. We then made a yogurt, cucumber and mint dip to try too. Some of us really enjoyed the vegetable batons and dip, some of us ... not so much :)

Some great crazy hair do's for Red Nose Day!

Today, we applied the skills we have been learning to chop vegetables safely to make vegetable kebabs!
